Our Story
PT Murianto Workshop was established in 2013 by Niels Evens at the age of 25 a Belgian from the town of Helchteren, Limburg.
With a degree in applied arts and a family rooted in technical trades such as woodworking and building, his background blends creative design thinking with a lifelong hands-on approach to making.
From an early age, he was drawn to tools, materials, and mechanical systems.
A mindset that continues to shape the workshop today.
After relocating to Central Java on a quest to find a place
where he could turn his sketches into real furniture, he was hosted by a local family whose late father, Kasmuri Muryanto, had run a small woodworking shop
behind their home. The workshop had fallen quiet after his passing,
Over the next 2.5 years, that space became a shared ground for learning and collaboration, blending traditional Indonesian techniques with a new design vision.
Working closely with the family’s eldest son, the first furniture collection took shape. What began as an informal partnership evolved over time
into a more structured workshop, gradually expanding its tools, systems, and output.
The name Murianto was originally chosen in honor of the late father and the family who remain part of the workshop to this day.
As the workshop developed its own identity, the name later evolved to Murian,
a more distilled expression of its roots and direction.
Over the years, Murian has grown into a trusted woodworking partner
known for its high precision, clean joinery methods, and deep respect for solid wood. The workshop now brings together modern machinery, deep teak expertise,
and a highly disciplined production process allowing for consistent,
detail-focused work across every project.
From traditional roots to technical execution, the core values remain unchanged: quality, clarity, and respect for the craft.
